Live and Unsigned 2010...

detours.JPG

Here at MTV, we love to support new talent and the Live and Unsigned search this year is no exception...

If you are a fan or talent shows such as the X Factor or Britain’s Got Talent, then talent search Live and Unsigned 2010 may be something you are interested in…minus Simon Cowell’s cheesy grin.

Auditions for the competition, which promotes unsigned and original musicians in the UK have kicked off across the country to find the next big thing and no, we don’t mean the next Joe McElderry.

Previous judges on the show include Celebrity Big Brother’s Dane Bowers, ex-Atomic Kitten star Liz McClaron and Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren who looks set to return for the search this year.

The competition, now in its third year gives grand finalists the chance to perform on the main stage at the Live and Unsigned Festival at the 02 in London!

Chris Ofili @ Tate Britain

Ofili images

I love a trip to the Tate Britain as the permanent collection is fantastic- from Turner and Rossetti to Gilbert & George and Henry Moore.

The latest exhibition is by Chris Ofili- who has won the Turner prize and experimented with all sorts of types of art. He's also massively influenced by hip hop and tickets to see this show are only £5 FOR THOSE UNDER 26. He recently said:

“I was drawn to (William) Blake’s image first as a watercolour…At the same time I was interested in how Snoop Dogg could sing quite vulgar lyrics with a sweet, smooth West Coast voice, in the coming together of the rough and the smooth. I was curious about trying to make older ideas contemporary and new, and somehow have a relationship to hip-hop culture.”

And he Ofili a pretty decent list of favourite hip hop albums/ tracks. He told us they are:
(not in order of preference):

Notorious BIG – 10 crack commandments
Common – Heaven somewhere
Method Mad – Bring the pain
Public Enemy – Public Enemy number 1
Erykah Badu – The Healer
Snoop Dogg – Gin & Juice
Wu Tang Clan – C.R.E.A.M
Jay-Z - Blueprint
A Tribe called Quest – The low end theory
The Roots – Clones
NAS – Illamtic
Mos Def - Black on both sides
Talib Kweli – Reflection eternal
Dizzee Rascal - Jezebel

Big New Track from Skepta!

So he's known for his Grime exploits but Skepta looks to be spreading his wings and moving things in to the next phase of his career.

We've seen the likes Dizzee, Tinchy and Chipmunk all make the cross over from the underground to main stream. Can Skepta be the next artist to follow that same path? I for one hope so, especially if he keeps making big tunes such as this one.

Take a look...

Marina and The Diamonds sparkle on Digs

Marina and the Diamonds.jpg

One of my 'MTV 10 for 10' favourites, "Marina and the Diamonds' hung out with me, Rickie and Melvin on the Digs couch yesterday. The half Welsh/ half Greek beauty is definitely a strong contender and one to watch for 2010.
She played Dingwalls in Camden last night to much praise and may even rival Ruth Lorenzo for Melvin's affection.

Check out the new vid 'Hollywood'...

Jedward

We all knew it would happen one day.. and finally that day arrived. Jedward came to MTV.

John and Edward, the highrising hair duo, literally bounced in to HQ in Camden yesterday. Now here in the studios we are no strangers to hollywood stars and world famous artists coming and going but the hysteria these two guys brought to MTV rivaled any I'd seen before. My fellow Irish told me they were excited ( there's a shocker!) about filming their video to their debut single 'Under Pressure' with Vanilla Ice which is happening today. And that they had very sore arms from rehearsing all their crazy choreography.

Can't wait to see that vid.. will be interesting.

But for now, you guys will have to make do with their spine-chilling NTA performance. Be sure to keep checking the blog though as I'll post their new vid as soon as I get my hands on it... Oh and I am constantly being teased by MTV News that they look like my younger brothers.. what u think?

Professor Green Live on Stage

I first came across Professor Green when I saw him in an MC Battle competition at a Hip Hop night called The Jump Off in London a few years ago. I used to go down to those nights a lot, which at the time were ground breaking for the UK scene and they still continue to do big things to this day.

Pro went on to fly the flag for uk Rap at the Hip Hop Summit in the Bahamas where he battled some of the worlds best MC's and came in an amazing second place. After that he toured with The Streets and was part of Mike Skinners The Beats project which also included Example who is currently riding high in the charts at the moment.

Check out this video of Pro Green during his time supporting Lily Allen at the Brixton Academy in South London...

New Timbaland and Katy Perry

Super Producer Timbaland recently went on record to say that he' no longer wants to make hip hop music and that he's only interested in making Pop.

His latest album 'Shock Value II' experiments with different genres of music and Pop features heavily with tracks with Miley Cyrus and the one below with Katy Perry.

See what you think...

StreetDance 3D!

First there was George Sampson, then Diversity showed us their moves and now the two have joined forces for new dance movie ‘StreetDance 3D’.

Think 'Save The Last Dance' meets 'Britain’s Got Talent' and you are pretty much there but this time, its in 3D!

Diversity and George are joined by BGT runner-ups Flawless for the movie, which tells the story of a streetdance crew gearing up for the UK Street Dance Championships.

However, they pick up some unlikely members along the way in the shape of a few incredibly bendy ballet dancers from the Royal Dance School!

The film is due to hit our screens in May, but if you can't wait that long - here's a sneak peak…

Looks good right? Can't wait to don those 'attractive' 3D specs when the film is released across the UK on 21st May.

Get ready for that one! x
