N'FA- Video Directed By Heath Ledger

This is a great track by rapper N'FA (No Fixed Abode). It's got a really nice laidback hip hop vibe. And the dark video (which you can watch below) was directed by late, great actor Heath Ledger. Itr's definitely worth a watch and a listen.

Motorbikes are cool. That was established before Brando rolled up with the BRMC, before Jimmy Dean sat on a Czech and yes before The Great Escape. They're cool not because of the Dolce & Ribena adverts they're used in at present, but because of the feeling you get when you ride one.

From any given Monday to Sunday people all over the world enjoy the thrill of becoming part of the environment around them rather than being inside a box looking out. Problem is, up until now a lot of motorcycle magazines seemed to either cater for those either older than the aforementioned, greased from head to toe or interested only in the two wheeled equivalent of shell suits.

Enter Sideburn Magazine - 'The world’s finest, most glamorous, most colourful, most informative, global-reaching go fast, turn left magazine' even if they do say so themselves. SB mag embodies the best bits of biking. The design, photography and writing are as slick as moto gp tyres; with coverage ranging from custom builds to dirty weekends in the woods.

Mystery Jets Play Somerset House

Mystery jets

The sun well and truly shone down on the first night of Somerset House's Summer Series with the Mystery Jets launching the open air gigs for 2010.

The London five-piece tore up the stage with some of their classics anthems including Young Love and Two Doors Down, as well as playing some of their latest tracks of their new album Serotonin. Their performance of their latest single Dreaming of a New World reaffirmed their place as headline act and left a buzz in the air which is sure to continue for the rest of the summer series at Somerset House this summer.

The lead singer of the Mystery Jets Blaine Harrison, chose one of his favourite bands of the minute Tribes to open the show. He described them as his “favourite band of the last ten years” and they are rumoured to be supporting them on their next tour.

Other bands still to look forward to at the Summer Series include The XX, Air, Florence and the Machine and N Dubz.

Champions of the World: A Breath of Fresh Air

residents02.jpg

One of our favourite sporting heroes, World Heavyweight Champion, David Haye, returned to the estate that he grew up on yesterday to open a children’s playground between two tower blocks in South London.

The newly landscaped garden and play area outside Burwash House on the Kipling Estate has been named 'The Haye' in honour of the Bermondsey-born boxer with hundreds of residents present to welcome David back to their estate.

The small baron space, between Burwash House and Mulvaney Way, was re-designed and transformed by three talented design graduates, May Safwat, Richard Knowles and Diego Ulrich.

The project aims to test whether making public areas more interesting and involving local people in the design, will make these areas less prone to vandalism and misuse. The work was funded by a grant from Southwark Council's Joint Security Initiative and carried out in partnership with Leathermarket JMB.

May, Ricky and Diego worked with JMB staff during one of the coldest spells of the year, to transform the area. Great work!!!

What Happens in Vegas…..

trump-hotel-las-vegas4.jpg

..... stays on the MTV Blog!

Ok so me, Melv and a few others went to Vegas for my birthday and since everyone on Twitter/Facebook/BBM is asking me what we got up to or for advice on where to go, I thought I’d fill you in on a few of the highlights…

First up – the digs. Vegas has at least 10 of the biggest hotels in the world all on one road aka the Strip. They have massive casinos, nightclubs and bars in and are buzzing 24/7, but after a day and night going crazy (more of that later) there is only one place to stay to get away from it all – The Trump. When it comes to luxury suites – Donald knows what he’s doing, and its Kim Kardashian’s favourite spot (not why I booked it – honest). Check it out - www.trumplasvegashotel.com – pure class.

Now thanks to my job I’ve been to some good parties in my time, but the pool party I went to on the Sunday might just take the #1 spot. It’s called Wet Republic and is at the MGM Grand. The pic doesn’t really do it justice, but imagine 2000 of the most body-beautiful people in the world chillin to the sounds of Fedde Le Grande, Sharam, LMFAO and Deadmau5. Sick. Even Melvin was left speechless…. www.wetrepublic.com

Just when we thought it couldn’t get amy better – IT DID. After checking out Nas & Damian Marley live at the Hard Rock Hotel (see separate post) we headed to the world famous TAO nightclub inside The Venetian for the hottest ticket in town – Erick Morillo. The club was rammed (at least 500 people waiting outside) with the likes of Paris Hilton, Reggie Bush and practically the entire Hills cast cutting loose. Check this out…Morillo played for 10 hours. Yep, 10 hours! Could Vegas be the new Ibiza…..? www.taolasvegas.com Here's a taster...

Other highlights included The Love Festival at The Palms which has another amazing pool, actual fire in the nightclub (Rain) and the best view of Vegas from the Ghost Bar (so how did Melvin fall asleep up there???). Oakenfold and Jason Derulo did their thing. www.palms.com

Then on my birthday night we headed to Surrender nightclub at the Encore hotel where Steve Aoki has a residency. It was opened by Ne-Yo just a couple of nights before and still felt brand new. By day it’s the $40m Encore Beach Club which, as Ne-Yo and Paris proved, is a must see if you’re ever in Sin City. www.encorebeachclub.com

If you’ve been to Vegas then you’ll know there are still tonnes of places missing from this list, and if you haven’t been to Vegas…… BOOK...... NOW. Lol

Nas & Damian Marley @ The Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas

TheJoint_NAS-DamienMarley_29_CodyBoor (21).jpg

Whilst in Vegas over the Memorial Day Weekend, the MTV UK crew hit the Hard Rock Hotel for Nas & Damian Marley’s ‘Distant Relatives’ show. The temperamental Icelandic volcano had scuppered our MTV News interview and their performance last month so this was our first chance to catch them live.

They opened with the first single ‘As We Enter’ and after that took it in turns to deliver sets of their solo material. Nas’ whistlestop tour through his back catalogue alone was worth the trip to Vegas, specifically ‘Made You Look’ and ‘One Mic’.

The Joint is a wicked venue with amazing acoustics, well worth a look for any one heading out to Sin City. The HRH all-suites tower above Vanity nightclub is about as rock n roll as you can get – check em out here: www.hardrockhotel.com and follow them on Twitter: twitter.com/hardrockhotellv

Win Your Dream Gig

Ladyhawke

Here's some info from Cancer Research UK about how to win your own dream gig. Last year Ladyhawke played for some lucky fan...

Young music fans and aspiring artists are being given the chance to win and curate their very own exclusive gig – complete with the chance to pick its line-up and location – as part of skindividual, the bold online music initiative from Cancer Research UK.

The skindividual competition from SunSmart, the charity’s skin cancer awareness programme, will task music lovers with dreaming up the most creative gig idea that links live music with a message to young people about not getting caught out by sunburn.

The best idea will be turned into reality this summer.. Electropop, indie, hip hop or RnB - it’s completely your call. Not only will the winner get the chance to create and host their own event, but they could also find themselves performing at it too.

The winner will be assigned their own team of live music experts to help them turn their vision into reality. The skindividual initiative aims to encourage young people to protect their skin from sunburn this summer. The competition has been launched in response to rising rates of malignant melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, among young people in the UK. Rates of malignant melanoma have more than doubled among young people in the past 20 years, and it is now the most common form of cancer in Britain among 15-34 year olds.

Complete Rec

rec2.jpg

Minutes have passed since the authorities lost contact with those trapped inside the virus-stricken apartment block, now completely sealed off from the outside world. A SWAT team, equipped with video cameras, has been sent in to try and control the situation.

Cult Spanish horror film Rec now has a sequel and although I haven’t built up the courage to watch it yet, if you get your kicks from horror flicks – this is one for you... www.rec2lapelicula.com

Here's one less excuse as to why you can't produce/ direct/ act/ create your own projects…

The Rag Factory is a non-profit organisation that has been created to support all of your creative needs. There's 6700 square feet of studio space in London's Brick Lane; rehearsal spaces, audition spaces, filming spaces, thinking spaces, eating spaces and meeting spaces. Lots of space for being creative and most importantly it's offered at rates that are likely to be lower than anywhere else in the city, perhaps with the exception of your aunties spare room.

Big Boi Reps For Janelle

We had Big Boi from Outkast in the office this week and I had the pleasure of interviewing him.

He was an absolute gent and came across as very intelligent. You can see why his group have survived so long (over 15 years) in the rap world. He talked at length about his new album, plans with Andre 3000 and single Shutterbugg. Look out for the interview soon…

When I asked about new artists there were two the Atlanta native raved about. B.o.B- who’s going to number one this week with Nothin On You and whose debut album is worth checking out.

And Janelle Monae- who was originally discovered by Big’ and is now being mentored by P Diddy. Check her out absolutely SMASHING David Letterman earlier this week…
